Just Mic "Da Poet" was inspired to write poetry after the sudden death of his Sister in 1999. He has written well over 1000 poems since then. In 2012 Just Mic decided to enter a poetry contest on the North Side of Chicago this is where he then launched out and began to feature and perform live throughout Chicago and other states. Just Mic is now a 5-Time Published Author, 3-Time Recording Artist, 7-Time National Award Winning Poet with 25 National Nominations, 2-Time Slam Winner; 1 National, and Finalist Nominee of the Gospel Choice Music Awards! Just Mic was also nominated for the 2023-24 312 Music Awards for Best Spoken Word Poet of The Year! His newest Spoken Word Album (Depths of a Poet's Soul) was Considered for the 2023 Grammy Awards for Best Spoken Word Poetry Album (Category). Just Mic has also featured live during the WNBA Chicago Sky Halftime Show at Wintrust Arena, The Black Woman's Expo and also featured on several radio stations, magazines as well as television. He has also performed on stages along side of Artist such as (America's Got Talent Winner) (Poet) Brandon Leake, (Gospel Singer) Darius Brooks, (Hip Hop Group) Crucial Conflict and so many others! He has hosted over 100 Open Mics and Events throughout Chicago and other States. To add Just Mic "Da Poet" is also a licensed minister and a recent Graduate Alumni of Kennedy King College with a degree in Business Administration. His journey through education has led him to become apart of the New Advertising Campaign for the City Colleges of Chicago serving as an Advocate for higher education.
